The surprising thing for me here is that Vista came in third. In other boot speed tests I have read about it usually cam in dead last, with Windows 7 being faster, but not faster than any of the two Ubuntus.

Uf, i cant tell you how mad i am at myself for updating from 9.04 to 9.10. On 9.04 I had everything set-up and working for my video production needs, but after the upgrade all of the joy has gone somewhere far away. So today, i will be installing 9.04 UbuntuStudio (my 5th install of a linux distribution in the last 3 days!!!) and praying for it to cooperate with a sorry ass looser as me

Hi mate
I have been monitoring articles regarding 9.10 and despite having some improvements, especialy an improved speed it has caused many problems for a lot of users. I keep on getting a kernel error and I am using a bog-standard IBM Thinkpad T43 – not the most unusuall hardware. The sound is not as smooth as it used to be and they removed some features like allowing you to remove the timer after choosing system shutdown. You can still do it but its not a simple solution.
I think I might be sticking to LTS editions like some other users. I also think that canonical should extend their publications of Ubuntu to at least once a year, if not once every two years.

Pulseaudio is the cause of all evil! Especially with kdenlive, it’s a pain in the ass to get rid of it, even more so if one is new to ubuntu and linux… But, i learned a lesson: do not try to make something which works even better
