When I looked up my GMail account this morn morning I saw that they activated the GMail phone feature for me and so far it is looking much better than Skype. These are the per minute call rates to a landline to Slovenia.

Skype (PAYG): 0.041 GBP/min

Google Voice: 0.026 GBP/min

Prices above include VAT and were taken from the Google and Skype websites on 27. August 2010.

Limitation with Google Voice at the moment is that they let you add funds to your account only by $10 ONLY exactly.

Google StreetView’s coverage has been extended to about 90% of the country and that now includes Haverfordwest and Pembrokeshire. The images are pretty high quality. I have heard there is a bit of an anomaly with the High Street in Pembroke Dock as part of it was filmed in once season and the other part in another, with Christmas decorations still visible.

Če izgleda, da bom delal reklamo za WordPress, potem ste prebrali prav. Tale blog, ki ga trenutno gledate (poleti, leta gospodovega 2008), deluje v spletni aplikaciji, ki se ji reče WordPress.

Blog sem začel pisati konec 2006 na Googlovem Bloggerju (a.k.a. Blogspot-u) a mi je bilo dosti omejene funkcionalnosti, ki jo je nudil Google. Kupil sem si majhen kos Bluehost-ovega strežnika in namestil WordPress. Vsekakor priporočam bolj zavzetim in tudi nekoliko manj zavzetim piscem spletnih dnevnikov – slednji postanejo morda celo malo bolj zavzeti, ker je uporaba WordPressa precej zanimiva.

Sama osnovna aplikacija ima ogromno funkcionalnosti, ki pa jih lahko še nadgradite – v mojem primeru imama dodatke, kot so Zemanta, mobilni vmesnik, prikazovalnik Facebook stanja, prikazovanje strani preko medpomnilnika (cache-ja) in še mnogi drugi. Za slednjega sem kar presenečen, da ni že v osnovni različici programa.

Precej dodelan imajo sistem vstavljanja slik in sploh raznih medijev (zvok, slika, film) in to precej bolje, kot je to v Google-u, grafičnih tem za bloge je na stotine in so na voljo preko WordPressa ali pa jih lahko sami poiščete na spletu.

Google Maps has recently updated the satellite photos covering Wales, Pembrokeshire in particular. I am not sure how other areas were covered before but there is a definite resolution increase in the photos in south west Wales. The enhanced photos were first available on Google Earth and soon after that on the web edition – Google Maps.

The image detail is very good and you should have no problem seeing cars and their colour as well as people. Here is a close-up of Little Haven in Pembrokeshire:

I have already tried to establish when the photos were taken but I have only been in Wales for just over a year and they were definitely taken before that. At the moment I have information that they are about 2 years old. If anyone has more precise information please contact me or drop a comment on this article.

There are some interesting mistakes that can be seen, this particular one on the second Severn bridge. The cars seem to be driving on the shade of the bridge itself. I presume an image server at Google misinterpreted the grainy image with lower resolution (seen here on the left) and then mistakenly connected wrong parts of the bridge confusing the bridge itself with its shadow.
I presume the two photos were taken at different parts of the year (the better resolution taken probably during winter, note the longer shadow.

I have joined the hoard of internet users around the worls and started using Facebook. I haven’t used it much but so far I am very impressed in the overall system. Really well thought out and programed. No wonder Google and Microsoft have appetites in the company. It is assumed to be worth around 10 billion USD. The company was founded by a student drop-off in 2004 and currently has 42 million active users and more than 14 million photos are uploaded daily to the site.
So far I only found two friends: my former landlord from the houseshare in Hill mountain in Wales and Debbie, who is an experienced skydiver that used to work as a veterinary nurse at the Fenton Veterinary clinic – the clinic where I now work.
