Firefox 3 is finally here!!

After a long wait and an apparent server crash (link 2)we finally have the much anticipated new browser from Mozilla. You can get a detailed how-to on the product here.

The "big download" should have commenced at 10 am PDT but was delayed at least an hour an a half. I managed to get it at 19.30 GMT (20.30 CET). I encourage you to get you own here:

http://www.mozilla.com/

Update: as mentioned earlier there have been so many requests for download that the Mozilla servers just crashed under the pressure. At one time there were like 14.000 downloads per minute! With a 7 MB download that is 13 GB/s.

If you want to see the progress fo the download you can se a live counter here:

Comment given on Michele Neubert's blog: Ljubljana - on its way to primetime

This post is just an extension of the comment I gave on on the blog of Michele Neubert, an NBC news producer who has just completed a visit to Ljubljana, Slovenia on the occasion of George W. Bush's visit to the EU-US summit.

I am also from Ljubljana, but living in Wales, UK at the moment and miss my home time immensely. It is a nice article and we have to take it from the point of view of the reader and her expectations. Slovenia is not the Balkans, only a part of the south comes under it geographically. It was "annexed" to it historically under Yugoslavia.

I used to live in one of those blocks of flats on the edge of the city and they are not as bad as you think. The views of the mountains was sensational and it took me a lot of self control to keep my head in my books while studying to be a vet in the local university.
These buildings is where we live and we are not Switzerland or Austria. Even better, we are Slovenia and these buildings are just one part of our history and architecture and shouldn't be removed just because they are not picture perfect. They are a part of the history and it would be realy stupid to move everybody out and build them new sightlier accomodation just because the block of flats is to pig ugly. I may be a bit silly but close to Christmas the evening view of the Bratovseva ploscad, where I lived looked a bit like a giant Christmas tree :-)

Ljubljana - on its way to primetime?
Bollocks.
If you ask me,
it's already there.

Improved satellite view of Pembrokeshire

Google Maps has recently updated the satellite photos covering Wales, Pembrokeshire in particular. I am not sure how other areas were covered before but there is a definite resolution increase in the photos in south west Wales. The enhanced photos were first available on Google Earth and soon after that on the web edition - Google Maps.

The image detail is very good and you should have no problem seeing cars and their colour as well as people. Here is a close-up of Little Haven in Pembrokeshire:

I have already tried to establish when the photos were taken but I have only been in Wales for just over a year and they were definitely taken before that. At the moment I have information that they are about 2 years old. If anyone has more precise information please contact me or drop a comment on this article.

There are some interesting mistakes that can be seen, this particular one on the second Severn bridge. The cars seem to be driving on the shade of the bridge itself. I presume an image server at Google misinterpreted the grainy image with lower resolution (seen here on the left) and then mistakenly connected wrong parts of the bridge confusing the bridge itself with its shadow.
I presume the two photos were taken at different parts of the year (the better resolution taken probably during winter, note the longer shadow.

Zmaga modro-belih
